I had forgotten how beautiful the sun is as it peaks through the garden during its early morning rise. I sit quietly with my cup of chai and watch the colours change of overlapping leaves and petals as the sun gets higher in the sky.
Wild birds flit around the garden, playing with each other. The chickens scratch over the lawn looking for bugs or the best tufts of grass for breakfast. KittyPuss is in full smooch mode and refuses to be ignored so she gets copious ear rubs and shoulder scratches. PoochGirl has already done her sniffing rounds, inspecting what has changed overnight, now she lays by my feet, watching.
Feeling inspired, I gather some newly purchased fabrics and lug out my grandmother's old Janome. Bobbins full, machine threaded, scissors and pins at the ready.
Using an old skirt for a pattern I begin to snip. Stitches begin to come together. I make a mistake so calmly unpick the stitches, enjoying the peace and tradition of making. KittyPuss jumps onto the table with me while I pin and pin, still wanting my attention but quick pats is all for now.
Soon enough my new maxi skirt is complete. There are changes I will make next time but that's all part of learning and experimenting.
KittyPuss snuggles down on my lap and we watch the cirrocumulus clouds drift above us. I am trying to teach myself about clouds, starting with names and identification.
Later In the day more clouds roll over and our feathered visitors arrive to finish off their seed brick and devour the sunflower seeds.
I adore their colours so much. Son3 and I collect the stray pink feathers that we find along our walks. Just another odd collection and wonder.
After a forage and bellies filled, they fly off to finish their afternoon route before making way to their roost nearby for the night.
I head inside too to begin my evening routines. Cooking dinner and eating together at the table. Cleaning up after the day. While the boys do their chores I take a small moment to sit with PoochGirl and watch the rainbows cast onto the wall from the downing sun shining through crystal prisms in the kitchen window. (Raw floorboards for 3 weeks in between new carpet being installed) Then showers, pj's, and quiet time for all.
Through the trees she emerges. Glowing with a beautiful radiance. Owning the night.
I finish my day by snuggling down in my fluffy blankets and pillows, reading a book, currently The House By The Sea. I leave the window open for the breeze to flow through. Tonight I will leave it open all night so I can follow the moon's sky journey, her glow can cover me, cleanse, strengthen, empower and protect me.
